BLACK & TANNIN IS BACK
BACK TO FUN STUFFWe’re excited for this new release Black & Tannin – barrel aged Black IPA. It’s the final part of a three-part series with our good friend’s Mane Liquor and Perth Artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers.
A little history lesson to start with; in 2014 together with Mane Liquor we hatched the idea to create three collaboration brews, each beer to be barrel-aged, launched once a year and featuring a Perth artist throughout the entire series and Kyle Hughes-Odgers joined us for the ride over the next three years.
Black and Tannin was the first of the three brews – a Black IPA barrel-aged in our Eagle Bay Vineyard Cabernet barrels launched in August 2015.
Then in September 2016 we followed with Forrest for the Tree’s, a whiskey barrel aged coffee imperial porter – with Whipper Snapper Distillery providing the whiskey barrels and Perth coffee roasters Twin Peaks.
To finish in July 2017 we launched Black Vanilla, Black Vanilla, a whiskey barrel-aged imperial stout with vanilla and coconut.
Fast forward to 2022 – we decided this collaboration should make a comeback, mostly thanks to regular requests over the years. This time around the brews were refreshed and modernised, lead by our Head Brewer Keegan Steinbacher and the artwork by Kyle Hughes-Odgers tweaked with a pops of colour.
We decided to work in reverse starting with Black Vanilla launching in August 2022, again barrel-aged in whiskey barrels from locals Whipper Snapper Distillery. Followed by Forrest for the Tree’s launched in April this year. We created a Baltic Porter again barrel aged in whiskey barrels from Whipper Snapper and the edition of coffee from Dunsborough coffee roaster’s The Cape Effect
Fast forward to August 2023, we are launching Black and Tannin, the final brew in the series of three. We created Black IPA, this time barrel-aged in a mix of our Eagle Bay Vineyard Chardonnay and Cabernet barrels for six months. The brew was then blended and triple dry-hopped with Simcoe, Mosiac and Southern Cross which delivers punchy dank, citrus and pine hop characters alongside a super dark and roasty profile.
