It Takes A Village with Tayla Hughes

It takes a village to bring Eagle Bay Brewing Co. to life, and with every village its people are its backbone. As part of our it takes a village journal, we meet some of the people that make our village.

Meet Tayla Hughes, one of our Restaurant Supervisors.

Tayla started with us back in 2020, just prior to the summer season, as a casual front of house team member. “I had just turned 18 and was working at Coles, when I reached out to a mutual friend of our family, Emma, to get a job at Eagle Bay. It was my first hospitality job, and admittedly, I knew nothing about Eagle Bay, but heard it was a fun place to work. I really wanted to get outside of my comfort zone and learn something new, and hospitality was very different to Coles.”

Tayla worked a very busy summer period which she says was “A great learning experience because I had to learn quickly on my feet and just jump feet first into the busy season.” She then took off to Broome for 6 months in mid 2021 to explore the country and get away from the down south winter. This was Tayla’s first solo travel after high school. However, she was drawn back to the southwest for the summer season, beautiful beaches and drinks with friends, and returned to work with us in the restaurant again.

Tayla willingness to learn and can-do attitude allowed her to grow quickly within our restaurant team, and in October 2022, Tayla was promoted to Restaurant supervisor. Having developed even further, Tayla is now currently in training to be our new Functions Supervisor.

What does Tayla love about working at Eagle Bay Brewing Co ?
“The team stick together, we all become friends and it’s a really positive workplace. It makes me happy!”

Tayla has lived down in Dunsborough for most of her life, so what does she love about it ?
“I love living so close to the beach, I do love the coastal life.” And if she could live anywhere else, where would it be ? “Probably Queensland, Gold coast or further up in Cairns. I loved it over there when I visited.”

Staffie of choice ?
“Eagle Bay Vineyard Nouveau. Every day.”

Go-to Locals ?
“Beerfarm, Fishbone & Bungalow”

“Tandoori Chicken Pizza, it’s so good!”
