The Brain Eaters Ball

Local Good Community - The Brain Eaters Ball supporting The Brain Cancer Centre

BACK TO FUN STUFF

This Halloween we went all in ghoulish for a very good cause close to our hearts, raising awareness and much needed funds for Brain Cancer research supporting The Brain Cancer Centre.

The Halloween Ball is the brainchild of Tara and Tim Hawken. Initially called The Bloodsuckers Ball, supporting malaria prevention, the idea evolved to support something closer to Tara and Tim’s hearts.

At age 29, Tara was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and was given 2-5 years to live. That was now 14 years ago. She’s healthier than ever thanks to a lot of help from doctors and plenty of personal hard work.

Unfortunately, Tara is the exception. Someone is diagnosed with brain cancer every five hours in Australia. Less than 20% of those people will survive beyond 5 years.

A lot more research needs to be done to ensure Tara’s ‘miracle’ outcome is no longer a miracle.

The Brain Cancer Centre was founded by Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer with a vision that one day no lives are lost to brain cancer. They work tirelessly to build collaborations and drive the research that will improve treatment options and survival rates for brain cancer patients. Together we will end brain cancer as a terminal illness and create a brighter future for patients and their families.

The Brain Eaters Ball was held at our place on Friday 1st November with 150 of the most ghoulishly jaw dropping folks you will ever find on a Friday night. Exceptionally good karma times were had and thanks to those who rose up from their graves to party with us.

We were able to raise a bloody amazing $17,581.56 for The Brain Cancer Centre while having a helluva good time!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, our event partners and the generosity of our auction and raffle partners, it takes a village right.
