CHARDONNAY SPARKLING ALE X CHRIS NIXONBACK TO FUN STUFF
A beer x wine x art collaboration project – featuring Perth artist Chris Nixon
The battle of beer versus wine has been a long fought debate around Australia, however we might have just come up with a solution – drink of combination of both at the same time. For some, it might sound like sacrilege to pour half glasses of chardonnay and sparkling ale together for a single drink, but the process isn’t that simple.
“We actually begin to make the beer with the addition of 400 litres of freshly pressed chardonnay juice right from the start, which comes from our Eagle Bay Vineyard C2019 Chardonnay vintage” explains EBBCo Brewer Keegan Steinbacher. “That way it co-ferments and the yeasts from each interact like kids playing together. After that, we take about a quarter of the brew and age it for a month in chardonnay oak barrels, so it picks up some coconut and vanilla characters. We then blend it back in to create a light sparkling ale with subtle chardonnay fruit notes in there.”
To mark the special nature of this release, Eagle Bay Brewing Co have teamed up with Perth artist Chris Nixon to create special artwork that will feature on the bottles. The art is an expression of the elements of growing grapes and creating beer and wine by the sea of where we live, it also matches the light and fruity nature of the beer itself – perfect to pair with seafood or maybe a chocolatey dessert.
